Tomàs Peire Serrate was born in Barcelona. He studied piano at the Sant Cugat del Vallès conservatory, where he grew up, and History at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. After few years performing and teaching he decided to focus on composition, first studying at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona) and in 2009 at the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki.
In 2011 he moved to New York with the La Caixa Fellowship to pursue a Master´s in Film Scoring at the New York University. After graduating in 2013 and obtaining the Elmer Bernstein Award, he moved to Los Angeles to explore the film music industry working as a composer and orchestrator. In the fall of 2015, Tomàs initiated his PhD studies at UCLA, researching about music, space and media, with particular interest in new technologies and virtual reality.
His music has been performed in Europe, US and Asia by performers such as Quartet Brossa, Arditti Quartet, Lyris Quartet, José Menor, Banda Municipal de Barcelona, American Composers Orchestra, Hockett, Solazur, Quartetto Indaco, Smash Ensemble, BCN216, Orquestra de Cambra del Penedès, Orquestra de Cambra Terrassa 48. He has been featured in venues and concert series such as Klang, Hear Now, Jacaranda, Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, Palau de la Música Catalana, or Off Liceu, and participated in festivals like Zodiac, HighScore, Vipa, SCI National Conference, or the Amercian Composers Orchestra-Underwood Readings, where last June 2018 he was awarded with the Audience Comission Award.
